About the Artist: George M. Hathaway (ME/MA, 1852 - 1903) born in Boston on January 4, 1852, Hathaway resided in Providence, RI and Manchester, NH before settling in Portland in 1886. He worked extensively as a furniture painter and decorator (incl. for Thos. P. Beals) as well as a marine and landscape artist, maintaining a summer studio on Peaks Island. He died in Providence in 1903 after a brief illness.
